5 Apps to Help You Track Inventory

Are you still trying to keep track of your inventory using excel?

Or much worse—your notes app?

As a savvy entrepreneur, I know you can and want to do better.

Product-based businesses need to have a solid inventory management system in place to make sure you have ample product on hand to meet your sales, but also so you know you’re turning a profit on those products.

Luckily, we are in the age of the app! There are so many great apps out there to help. This is my list of the top 5 apps for tracking inventory at your product-based business.

1. Sortly

What it’s all about: Sortly is an inventory tracking app aimed specifically at small businesses. They have users across a wide spectrum of industries: event management, interior design, non-profits, dentistry, and construction to name a few. You get up to 100 trackable items in the free version of the app.

Why I like it: Their app UI is unmatched. It’s clean, pretty, and very user-friendly. They also have great customer service. You can also download a range of reports from the app for data analysis. As a female entrepreneur myself, this is the one I’d use for a product-based business.

What it’s not great for: If you have a lot–100 or more—of items you’d like to track, you’ll have to upgrade to the premium version. Otherwise, this is my top choice!

How much it costs: Free! But you can upgrade to get enhanced features starting at $29/month.

2. Clearly Inventory

What it’s all about: Clearly Inventory is a great inventory management app that is targeted for three main purposes: asset tracking, manufacturing, and stock maintenance. Their stock maintenance is very similar to Sortly, but their asset management use has a few cool features worth noting. Does your product-based business rely on machinery, like Cricut printers? Clearly Inventory allows you to create a unique asset tag for each of your printers and tracks their condition over time.

Why I like it: One of the cool services this app provides up front data organization. When you first sign up, regardless of your subscription tier, they will upload, digitize, and organize all of your inventory information. This takes a lot of the setup legwork out of the equation, making the transition to using the app that much easier.

What it’s not great for: This app has a few more robust features than an app like Sortly that you may not need if you have a pretty simple assortment of inventory items.

How much it costs: Free! Upgrade for extra features starting at $19.99/month.

3. Zoho

What it’s all about: Zoho is an app used for tracking inventory created by the company Zapier. Zapier is a large web application integration site that allows you to have all your apps in one platform, all working together to improve running your product-based business. Unlike the previous two apps, Zoho can also be used on your laptop in case you don’t want to work from your phone or tablet.
Why I like it: I really like that this app integrates well with a bunch of other apps you may be already using. If you are a female entrepreneur who sells their products on eBay or Etsy, Zoho integrates seamlessly with those apps to really enhance your inventory management. If you are a tech lover, Zapier has a ton of other apps to add to their suite that will also integrate with Zoho.
What it’s not great for: This app does not have a free subscription tier. If you are trying to minimize expenses and have a pretty basic inventory set up, this app may not be the best pick for your product-based business.
How much it costs: $25/month, but there is a 15-day free trial to test it out.

4. Stock Inventory Control

What it’s all about: Of all the apps for tracking inventory on this list, this may be the most simple-looking. But Stock Inventory Control gives you a ton of control. Despite the simple interface, the app may take a little bit of time to get the hang of but is overall very intuitive. Their search function is unparalleled.
Why I like it: This is a pared down but powerful inventory tracking app. I like that the developers focused their time on its functionality rather than its form. One cool feature: you can group inventory items by type and location.
What it’s not great for: Android users! Unfortunately this app is only available on Mac & iOS.

How much it costs: The app is free to download, but recommends in-app purchases.

5. SOS Inventory

What it’s all about: Beyond simple inventory management, this app tracks orders, locations, and manufacturing as well. It also connects with a ton of e-commerce sites and apps, like Shopify and UPS.

Why I like it: This app was built to integrate specifically with Quickbooks! As an accountant, this feature of course brings me joy.

What it’s not great for: Product-based businesses on a tight budget should go with a different app. This is the priciest app on my list, but I do think the cost is worth the value you get out of it.

How much it costs: Starts $49.95/month.
