14 2022 Tax Deadlines You Need on Your Calendar

If you filed your taxes for the year of 2021, you're likely wondering when you'll have to file again in 2022. While there are no new tax laws in the books, the current ones are complicated enough and we are keeping our eye out for more changes.

The April 15th deadline (now April 18th*) is a fairly well known deadline but there are many more to consider - especially if you are a business owner! 

Below we review the 14 deadlines you need on your 2022 calendar. What could be a more perfect time to add them?

 

*The deadline has been pushed back to April 18th due to Emancipation day being recognized on Saturday, April 16th. As a result, government agencies are given the Friday before off. So the IRS pushed the due date back to the Monday after.

January 17th, 2022 - Estimated Quarterly Payments

This is your 2021 fourth quarter estimated quarterly payment due date. Work with an accountant to estimate your taxes due.

January 31st, 2022 - Form W-2 Filing Deadline

For businesses with employees, 2 W-2’s must be generated for each employee. One for the IRS and one for the employee.

January 31st, 2022 - Form 1099-NEC Deadline

For businesses with independent contractors, 2 1099-NEC’s must be completed. One needs to be sent to the IRS and one to the contractor.

February 28, 2022 - Form-MISC Paper Filing Deadline

This deadline is for those who will be submitting the form via paper, not electronically. If submitting electronically, then the deadline is at the end of March. This deadline is to cover miscellaneous income. Like the 1099-NEC form, one needs to be issued to the IRS and one to the recipient, if applicable.

March 15, 2022 - S Corporation & Partnership Returns Deadline

For business owners operating S Corporations or Partnerships, relevant returns are due. It is important to note here that under these business structures, the business is not paying their taxes on this date. Instead tax payments are passed on down through the individual.

March 31, 2022 - Form-MISC Electronic Filing Deadline

This deadline is for those who will be submitting the form electronically. Paper submissions were due at the end of February. This deadline is to cover miscellaneous income. Like the 1099-NEC form, one needs to be issued to the IRS and one to the recipient, if applicable.

April 18, 2022 - Estimated Quarterly Payments

If you own a business, estimated quarterly payments for Q1 income are due.

April 18, 2022 - Individual Tax Returns

Individual tax returns and payments are due on this deadline. If you wish to file an extension, that must also be filed for this date. Note tax payments are still due even if you file for an extension.

April 18, 2022 - C Corporation Tax Returns Due

Corporation tax returns are due on this deadline. Like other return deadlines, the tax payment is due but you may file an extension.

June 15, 2022 - Estimated Quarterly Taxes

Second quarter quarterly tax payments are due.

September 15, 2022 - Estimated Quarterly Payments

Quarter 3 estimated payments are due.

September 15, 2022 - Extension Deadline For S Corporations & Partnerships Returns

If you are a Partnership or S Corporation and filed for an extension back in March, then this is your deadline. Payments for these returns should have been made, however, up till this date you still have time to file.

October 15, 2022 - Extension Deadline For Individual Returns

If you had filed for an extension on your personal return back in April, this is your deadline to file your individual return.

There you have it! Your tax deadlines for the 2022 year. Remember these deadlines relate to the activities performed in 2021. So the very first step you should take is to get these dates on your calendar. The second step you should take is to make sure your 2021 books are closed out and finance statements are ready to be used for these upcoming returns.
